We would like to welcome you to Theatre Works, Inc., a nonprofit community theatre company newly relocated to the Masonic Temple at 142 Clinton Street, Woonsocket, RI. As an introduction to our group, we offer answers to some frequently asked questions concerning our activities.

Q: When was Theatre Works established?
A:
Theatre Works was incorporated in 1983 as a non profit 5013c entity.

Q: How many productions are there in a season?
A: Our season usually runs from September through May with four shows per season.

Q: How do I find out what’s going on with the company, for instance what plays are being offered, when are activities, etc.?
A: Our primary method of distributing information is through this website. Please ask to be included on our mailing list to receive notices of shows. We also utilize various newspapers such as The Board. If you have any questions, you may leave a message at 401-766-1898 option 4 and someone from the organization will return your call.

Q: How do I become a member of Theatre Works?
A: Anyone can become a member of the Theatre Works organization and enjoy its privileges: attending general membership meetings, running for a position on the Board of Directors, voting, participating in group social activities and fundraisers. In addition, anyone 18 years and older who has obtained a role is required to become a member if they do not already have a membership in the organization. A fee of $10.00 entitles the member to one free ticket to the one show of their choice. All members are eligible to renew membership for the following season.

Q: Who can audition for roles in Theatre Works productions?
A: Our auditions are open to any and all interested parties. No prior affiliation with the company is necessary. Please contact us to be put on the audition list.

Q: I’m interested in other aspects of the theatre besides acting. How do I get involved?
A: We welcome anyone interested in participating in our productions in capacities other than acting. No prior experience is required. If you’re eager to learn, we’re willing to teach you. The behind-the-scenes functions include stage managing, prop master, set design, set construction, costume designer, lighting designer, lighting operation and house staff, to name a few. If you are interested in lending a hand, please leave a message by calling 401-766-1898 option 3 and someone from the organization will return your call.

Q: Are the actors or actresses in Theatre Works productions compensated?
A: At present, there is no method of compensation for acting in our productions.

Q: Is Theatre Works involved in anything besides play production?
A: As a community theatre group, we are involved in a variety of community-related activities. The group has, in the past, presented children’s productions for the local community and is looking forward to working with children in the near future. We have participated in programs directed towards our inner city youth. We are proud to be providers of an annual scholarship fund available to local high school seniors who will continue their education in the field of fine arts. Theatre Works is always looking for new ways to include the community in our activities.

Q: How are the plays selected for each season? Can I offer suggestions?
A: The Play Selection Committee, consisting of four members and the Chairman, accept suggestions and/or requests for plays to be considered. If you are interested in submitting a play for consideration, you are requested to forward a copy of the script to the Play Selection Chairman. If you are interested in directing a production, you must submit a TW play submission form accompanied by a copy of the script, a budget proposal, and a resume. Theatre Works welcomes input from any source in regards to selection of its plays for the season. The Play Selection Committee will attempt to review all submitted plays. Q: I am interested in attending a performance. How do I make arrangements?
A: It is suggested that you make a reservation for a particular performance as we often have sold-out performances. Reservations are accepted starting a month prior to the opening of the show. Reservations can be made by calling the box office at 401-766-1898 option 1. Reserved tickets can be picked up at the door on the night/day of the performance. Group rates are available for parties of ten or more. The group discount is $1.00 per ticket. Seating in our theatre is assigned, so any special seating requests must be made in advance, and we will do our best to accommodate your request. Preferential seating is given to our subscribers. Please note that Theatre Works is now currently accessible to individuals with disabilities.
