WOONSOCKET – Theatre Works closes its 22nd season with Meredith Willson’s perennial favorite, The Music Man, May 14 through the 29th at its home on 78 Earle Street in Woonsocket.
Greg Bonin of Woonsocket and Kathy Donahue of Uxbridge, MA head the cast as Harold Hill and Marian the librarian. This show marks the first time they are reunited since performing together as the King and Anna in The King and I during the 2000-2001 Theatre Works season.
This classic tale centers around charismatic con artist Hill who sells band instruments and uniforms – with no musical instruction – to the unsuspecting citizens of River City, Iowa. However, while trying to win the approval of the lovely Marian, he finds himself falling in love and considering changing his ways.
Directed by Lisa Forsgard, Head of the Drama Department at North Attleboro High School and also an active member of Theatre Works, the cast of 37 includes both experienced and first-time performers, 3 real-life families, and a professional barber shop quartet, the Firehouse Four from Lincoln. Some favorite songs from the show include “Ya Got Trouble,” “76 Trombones,” “Till There Was You” and “Lida Rose.”
Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm. Tickets are $13 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. For reservations, call 401-766-1898 and press Option 1.
