You're Invited to Join Theatre Works
LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Theatre Works, the first community theater to be located in the city of Woonsocket, is about to come of age. Founded in 1983, the brainchild of Evelyn Zifcak who remains at the helm as current president, the small theater company is alive and well as it approaches the sweet, tender age of 21. As it's customary to celebrate a 21st birthday, an invitation is being extended to all residents of Woonsocket and its neighboring communities to join us. The only prerequisite for becoming a member is the love of theater, and all ages are invited.
Our theater is non-profit and operated solely by volunteers. Simply put, we do it because we love it. Members volunteer as much or as little time as they choose and are never pressured to do more. Surprisingly, many members are not actors. Though actors are especially welcome, it takes more than acting ability to put up a great show. Live theater has many unsung heroes with many jobs being done behind the scenes. Jobs such as lighting and sound effects, stage managers and directors, set builders and producers, concession sales and ushers, house managers and costumers, makeup artists and hair stylists whatever your interest, these positions and more are available to anyone with the desire to learn and the ability to do. Those with a passion for theater can experience sheer bliss as they witness a production develop from a simple audition to a closing night standing ovation.
Piqued your interest yet? The low annual membership fee includes one complimentary ticket to any show during the regular season. It also entitles members to attend general meetings and have a say in the business and creative process of theater. Probably the best reason for joining is the association with others who share similar interests and values provided by membership. Our purpose is to promote culture and the arts, and our goal is to entertain and educate.
Theatre Works rents the auditorium located on the secand floor of the First Universalist Church at 78 Earle Street, Woonsocket. If you want to be part of our 21st year celebration, call us at (401) 766-1898. Listen to all options then wait for the tone. Box 125, Woonsocket, RI 02895. One of our members will be in touch. See you at the theater!
